Hello everyone, if you wander the internet, you might have heard about the TikTok ban.
TikTok is a social media app that is popular for its video content and creating a strong sense of community. It is also said to be banned in two days.
Some users have started to move over to other video sharing apps such as Clapper, Flip, YouTube, and Instagram. However, other users have decided to as they proclaim, “go down with the ship,” referencing the scene in Titanic where the captain drowns at his steering wheel.
People are saying instead they will just go “touch grass” meaning to go outside. Some say they will even take up reading (great choice). Others see the ban as a blessing in disguise, saying they may actually get some work done.
Which begs the question, will hobbies now replace social media?
As a younger millennial, my time on social media isn’t as frequent as before. So this may be a bit biased, as I find myself slowly weaning myself off of it.
However, it will be interesting to see how this will affect those who have a higher than average screen time. TikTok was a dominating factor in shaping Gen Z, from the lingo to the trends.
However, as we know from losing things like Vine, DailyBooth, etc. We learned that most of the time, something new always crops up.
So what will it be this time? Will there be some kind of resurgence of finding those third places again? Or will another social app giant come to steal the throne?
