Editing a book

Hello everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve made an update on how the book is going. Slowly but surely I have been whittling away at it, like a sculptor creating a perfect bust.

Well if not perfect then at the absolute best it can be.

I am still on the 3rd Draft, and it has been slow going. I have had to delete or move certain parts of the story around.

But once I think, okay the chapter is finally done! I find myself realizing something won’t make sense if A does B and C does D. It’s very confusing at times.

Truth be told I have been taking breaks

It’s a lot. Especially near the middle of the book where a huge meat of the rising action takes place. I am still nowhere near the climax but this part is just as important.

Again, a lot of it is doing a ton of research. In hindsight, I think it would have been easier to do a story that takes place in the present and in a setting I am familiar with, but that just wouldn’t work for this story.

I would be happy to explain what I mean, but I have been adamant about keeping a lot of the details under wraps until the publication date is set.

That being said, I will continue to keep working at it, even if it’s just one page I get to edit. You have to hold yourself accountable because no one else is going to make it happen but you.

Good things take time

The current lesson I have been noticing lately in my work and personal life is that good things take time. Yes, it’s valid to want to get a product or a story out there, but it’s in your best interest to take time with it and make sure it is of good quality.

Your readers deserve a story worth reading, just as you deserve to be the author of a great story that is worth writing. As this is my first book, the pressure is great.

I have a vision of what this story will bring and I intend to write it according to that vision to the best of my ability. If you have felt similarly in your writing process, comment down below! 🙂

I started writing down one thing at the end of every day — what I actually managed to do. Not a to-do list, not plans. Just one small win. It’s surprising how quickly it shifts your perspective.
