A couple days ago, I had the best day ever. In my best day ever, I got to see the film F1. I had heard of Formula 1 before, and I knew it had to do with racing.
Although I did not watch the sport religiously, I was interested to learn more about it. On deciding which movie to watch (Jurassic World or this), I looked up the reviews and found that overall F1 would be the best choice to cap off a perfect day. I went in with an open mind.

One thing I will say about the film is how it creates drama and investment in the sport. It was fun to learn about this topic that others were so passionate about. The movie did a great job presenting the story in a way that showcased the thrill that comes with it.
Just think about it, riding a car where you are completely exposed sounds terrifying. Add in the sharp turns, speed times, competing with a bunch of other contestants, and you can feel the adrenaline throughout. I was completely enthralled, never taking my eyes off the screen.
At one point, there was a scene where something very major happens. I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say it made me go, “Oh no!” Even one person sitting near the front of the theater got up and threw their hands up in the air. That’s how intense it was, you felt those wins, and you felt the lows.
I have always believed that the secret formula to a good story is having both high stakes, and great characters. At the center of this story is one of redemption. Our central character is played by Brad Pitt, his character Sonny, is an aging racer. His younger teammate Joshua, is played by Damson Idris. This story is a commentary on middle age, and the living pains that come with it.
However, I would go as far to say that it’s a positive perspective on aging. Although Sonny is hardheaded, stubborn, and is painted out as an old timer who does things the ‘old school’ way. The stereotypes break, when we can see that age does not determine capability. There are strengths that come with old age, experience being one of them, and the film doesn’t shy away from showing the audience that.
Now, let’s talk about why you should watch it in IMAX.
The story, the acting, and the topic should be enough to see it in theaters, but the sound alone is what will make you feel immersed. This is one of those films that deserves to be seen on the biggest screen imaginable with the best sound available. The revving and the squeals that can be heard throughout the film will be felt through your bones. Each pass, pause, mistake, and win, will make you feel like you’re flying too.
RATING: 9/10, Great story and theater experience
