Hello everyone, welcome to a new section of the blog!
Each month I will now be giving my top favorite things I enjoyed, watched, or read. I got the idea to do this after listening to a podcast by Julia Louis-Dreyfus called, Wiser Than Me. She interviewed one of my favorite actresses, Julie Andrews, and they discussed her career including her biggest hit, The Sound of Music.
So without further ado, here are a few of my favorite things! 🎶
Wiser Than Me hosted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus

This podcast explores the lessons and experiences of older women. Probably one of my favorites to listen to when I am in the mood for some much needed guidance. It’s great to hear from so many amazing and talented women and the things they had to overcome.
It frames the aging experience in a positive light. As someone who tends to hold aging as a blessing rather than a nuisance, I enjoy hearing other women who uphold the same kind of beliefs.
Julia is amazing at asking thought provoking questions and sharing her own experiences with humor and intelligence. I would highly recommend this podcast to the women and older women in your life.
Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

This book has had me in a chokehold since I started the first chapter. The story takes place in the English countryside, it contains beautiful descriptions of nature and yearning as it follows the characters Bathsheba Everdene and her suitors, Farmer Oak, Mr. Boldwood, and Sergeant Troy. I went in, completely blind, and was pleasantly surprised by the prose.
Not only is is smart, with biblical references, and nods to the culture of the time. Each character holds a distinct personality and voice, you find yourself identifying with them and hoping that each gets what they truly want.
This is the kind of story that begs to be read during the summer, if you’re into romance that is more traditional (no smut :D), yearning, and lush descriptions of the countryside, then you will enjoy this!
The Godfather (1972) directed by Francis Ford Coppola

I know, I know. I am late in seeing this. BUT, I had the opportunity to watch it awhile back and was so impressed! The film follows the dealings of the Corleone family who are essentially a sophisticated mafia. The film shows their inner workings as they attempt to gain control among the five families.
I would say I have never really seen too many of these types of films. My first encounter with mafia crime films would have to be the movie A Bronx Tale (also a great film, btw).
This was beautiful, from start to finish. You see these characters as more refined and strategic, weighing their options carefully in a quiet room during a family wedding. Although there is violence in the film, it is used sparingly.
There you have it! Those are my favorites of the month, check them out if you’re interested. I can’t wait to see all the new content I will devour in August. What are your favorites of the month? Comment down below 🙂
